Omega-3's

Happy Thursday! What intention do you have for the day ahead?

eat your omega-3’s

The human brain is 60% fat, which means it is essential to include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat that is essential for the proper functioning of the human body. There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

These fatty acids play a crucial role in various bodily functions and have several health benefits. Here are some reasons why omega-3s are important for our body:

  1. Heart Health: Omega-3s are known to support heart health by helping to reduce blood pressure, triglycerides, and the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases

  2. Brain Function: DHA, one of the omega-3 fatty acids, is a major component of the brain and is essential for cognitive function. It is particularly important during fetal development and early childhood

  3. Inflammation Reduction: Omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation in the body

  4. Eye Health: DHA is also present in high concentrations in the retina, making omega-3 important for maintaining eye health

  5. Joint Health: Omega-3 fatty acids may help reduce joint pain and stiffness, making them beneficial for individuals with arthritis or other joint disorders

  6. Mood and Mental Health: Omega-3s may have a positive impact on mental health and mood disorders, including depression and anxiety

  7. Skin Health: Omega-3s contribute to healthy skin by supporting cell membranes and helping to maintain moisture

Our bodies cannot make Omega-3 fatty acids. Here are some foods that you can include in your diet that have high concentrations of omega-3s:

  1. Seafood

    • Fatty fish - wild-caught salmon, sardines, and mackerel

    • Shrimp, oysters, seaweed, and algae
