Lets get out of a rut

In today’s newsletter, I’m excited to discuss actionable steps to get out of a rut.

Quote of the day:

“No one is coming to help you. No one is coming to save you.” - David Goggins

David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and motivational speaker, emphasizes the harsh reality that no external force or person will rescue us from our challenges and struggles. He reminds us of a powerful reminder that we are ultimately responsible for our actions and outcomes. Goggins urges individuals to take ownership of their lives, pushing themselves beyond their limits to achieve greatness. It encourages self-reliance, resilience, and the understanding that true transformation comes from within, not relying on others for salvation.

Today, I am going to show you some actionable steps that you can take to start taking control of your life, especially if you are in a period of time where you feel a bit stuck. Feeling stuck is normal, especially when you go through a significant change in your life.

Getting out of a rut →

Before I talk you through some of the steps I use to get out of a rut, I wanted to emphasize the importance of giving yourself grace. Life is hard, and we all go through stressful times. The last thing you should do is give yourself a hard time even when your energy is already running low. I’m not saying to forget your responsibilities and ghost all your friends completely, but take it easy and find the balance that works for you. The steps below are some things I implement when I’m feeling stuck

  • Change your environment

    • There is so much science behind the power of changing the environment around you. What helps me is cleaning my space. When the space around you is clean and organized, your mind will reflect that, and you will feel calm and at ease. If you wake up and have your mind cleared of all the clutter, you will be able to take on anything that happens on that day.

  • Take a cold shower

  • Go on a walk without music or any distractions

  • Journal and take time to reflect

  • Hydrate and eat something that will nourish your body

MOVIE REC - Stutz on Netflix

This movie is about Jonah Hills’ psychiatrist, Phil Stutz, and the tools he implements to help improve self-care and mental health.

Two insights Stutz explores in this documentary →

Life force

  • Increase your life force so you can find what you are passionate about, but first, you must be passionate about improving the steps on the life force pyramid

    • Body → exercise and eat healthily

    • People → call your friends, go out to dinner, connect with those around you

    • Yourself → the relationship you have with yourself, physically write down how you feel and what your goals are to connect with your unconscious self

Part X

  • The shame and fear you have in your mind

  • 3 aspects of reality that will never go away → pain, uncertainty, and constant work

  • Part X is the villain → we need this to grow

  • We must learn how to love the process rather than focusing solely on the outcome

There are more stories and tools that Stutz explains in this documentary, I highly recommend you watch it. For me, it felt like I went through two hours of therapy, for free.
