NAD+

NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, a coenzyme found in all living cells. NAD+ is involved in the transfer of electrons within cells, essential for converting the energy from the food we eat into a form that cells can use.

  • Anti-Aging: NAD+ levels tend to decrease with age, and some researchers believe that maintaining or increasing NAD+ levels could potentially slow down the aging process and promote longevity. This theory is based on the idea that NAD+ supports DNA repair and cellular function.

  • NAD+ Precursors:

    • Nicotinamide Riboside (NR): NR is a popular NAD+ precursor. It's converted into NAD+ in the body through a series of enzymatic reactions. NR supplements are available in capsules or powders.

    • Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN): NMN is another precursor to NAD+. Like NR, it is metabolized in the body to produce NAD+. NMN supplements are also available in various forms.

  • Niacin (Vitamin B3): Niacin is a precursor to NAD+ and can increase NAD+ levels when consumed in sufficient amounts.

  • NAD+ Infusions: Some medical clinics offer intravenous (IV) NAD+ infusions. This method delivers NAD+ directly into the bloodstream, potentially leading to rapid increases in NAD+ levels.

  • NAD+ Supplements: There are supplements available that contain NAD+ directly. However, NAD+ is a relatively large molecule and may not be well-absorbed when taken orally.

  • Lifestyle Factors: Certain lifestyle practices, such as intermittent fasting and regular exercise, have been shown to increase NAD+ levels naturally. These approaches may promote NAD+ production in the body.
